Catherine Tholstrup holds a law degree from the University of Copenhagen and an LL.M from Cambridge University. Catherine has more than 25 years' experience in advising financial institutions, corporates and governmental agencies of sovereign entities with respect to capital markets law and contracts. Her special focus is on financial contracts, including trading and clearing of OTC derivatives in the post 2008 regulatory environment.
Catherine's work experience includes a total of 17 years with Plesner Law Firm, primarily in the Banking and Finance Group where she was instrumental in building the firm's derivatives law practice and in founding the Nordic Capital Markets Forum. Catherine worked for four years with the Derivatives Group of Allen & Overy, London, during which period she was seconded to Bank of America's capital markets and derivatives desk, and for three years as a capital markets lawyer at the state-owned Swedish Export Credit institution, Svensk Exportkredit.
Catherine is an experienced public speaker and teacher, speaking at numerous events in Denmark and abroad, including at conferences organized by the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA), the International Bar Association (IBA), and the Nordic Capital Markets Forum (NCMF) with the International Capital Markets Association (ICMA), as well as organizing and teaching in-house seminars and workshops for clients throughout Scandinavia.
Since 2015 she has been external lecturer at the University of Copenhagen, where she teaches company law.
